Consumer forum

Consumer Court is the name given to special purpose courts, in India and other countries, that deal with cases regarding consumer disputes and grievances. These are judiciary set ups by the government to protect the consumer rights. If any consumer is cheated by the seller he/she can approach the redressal forum to seek justice. Their main function is to maintain the fair practices by the sellers towards consumers.

Types of Consumer Forum

• A national level court works for the whole country.
• A state level court works at the state level.
• A district level court works at the district level.

Consumer Rights

• The right to be informed about the quality, quantity, price, etc of goods or services.
• The right to be protected against the marketing of hazardous goods and services.
• The right to be assured, wherever possible, access to a variety of goods and services at competitive prices.
• The right to seek redressed against unfair trade practices or restrictive trade practices or unscrupulous exploitation of consumers, etc.
