Dr Mustapha Ahmed, Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology has reiterated governments commitment to promote the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

He said government in 2011, set out a-four-year Science and Technology Innovation Development Plan aimed at achieving some specific projects and its implementation.

E-governance exhibition kicks off

LAHORE - The first ever two-day E-governance Exhibition was held under the aegis of Punjab Information Technology Board at Arfa Software Technology Park. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the exhibition. Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Dr. Umar Saif and other officials were also present on this occasion.

As many as 42 software projects completed jointly with various departments of provincial government have been displayed in the exhibition which are playing an effective role in good governance, transparency and providing assistance to citizens.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi chief bows out on nostalgic note

NEW DELHI: Monday marked the end of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as one entity. The 55-year-old civic body will give way to three agencies, with the North Delhi Municipal Corporation the first to come into being.

The formation of the north civic body was tinged with nostalgia for outgoing MCD commissioner K S Mehra. He described his tenure as commissioner as not only his last, but also the most challenging. Mehra, a 1978-batch IAS officer, will join the Delhi government from next week.

Andhra Pradesh Govt to introduce multipurpose smart cards

Hyderabad:  The government is introducing multipurpose Aadhar-based smart cards to the beneficiaries (citizens) for availing benefits of different welfare schemes.

Fingerprint-based POS (point-of-sale) terminals would be set up at all welfare departments service centers, State Road Transport depots, Department for Pensions, Commercial Tax and other departments, state Information and Communications Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah told reporters.

Riyadh: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) announced yesterday that Saudi Arabia occupies ninth place in terms of electronic participation. It is No. 2 in the GCC in terms of providing electronic services, according to the MCIT.

The ranking was according to the United Nation e-Government Survey in 2012. The same source shows that Kingdom is No. 20 in the world in terms of providing electronic services.

If all goes according to plan, the BangaloreOne centres will soon be at your doorstep, thanks to Syndicate Bank that has sponsored two buses costing Rs20 lakh to the citys e-governance department.

The buses will function as mobile BangaloreOne centres in areas that do not have this facility. This way, residents, who stay in localities where there are no BangaloreOne centres, can save both time and effort, as they need not go all the way to other BangaloreOne centres to pay their bills.

A 3-Day workshop was held by NIC Himachal Pradesh for the Budget Controlling Officers of the State Government at HP Secretariat, Shimla from 19 to 21 April 2012. A total of 150 officials attended the workshop on online distribution of budget and financial reporting software.
